Happy New Year : Reflections & Resolutions

Happy New Year, everyone! As we step into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the year gone by and setting my intentions for the one ahead. The transition into a new year always feels like a perfect opportunity to pause, look back, and think about what I want to achieve – both personally and professionally. It feels like the right time to think about our reflections and resolutions.

2024 was a year full of challenges, growth, and learning. There were moments of great accomplishment and a few lessons along the way. As I reflect on everything I’ve faced, I realize how important it is to be kind to myself, celebrate the wins (big and small), and embrace the journey of balancing work, family, and personal life.

Resolutions for the Year Ahead: Cooking, Connection & Presence

This year, my intention is simple but meaningful: to cook more at home and ensure we eat together as a family. My little one has made it clear that family meals are something she really values, and I want to honor that. It’s not just about preparing food – it’s about creating those moments of connection, where we can sit down, talk, and share a little joy, away from the demands of the day.

I know cooking at home will come with its own set of challenges, but I’m committed to making this a priority for my family. Plus, who can resist the chaos and fun of a family kitchen?

Reflections on My Journey So Far

Looking back on 2024, I feel proud of the professional milestones I’ve achieved. From hitting milestones on projects with the team, like two school buildings at stage 4, to submitting a school project at stage 3, it was a year of growth and momentum. Even in the face of personal challenges, the ability to stay focused and keep moving forward was a testament to resilience.

Yet, like many working parents, I often find myself reflecting on the delicate balance between work and family. There are days when the guilt of missing out on family moments creeps in, and other days when I feel the weight of work responsibilities pulling me in too many directions. These are the moments I’ve learned to navigate – and I’m focusing on being more present, wherever I am.

Starting the Year with Clear Intentions: Here’s How I’m Doing It

  • Clearing the Clutter: The first thing I did when I returned to work after my break was clear my desk and tackle my inbox. It may seem simple, but it was a crucial step to reset my mind and get back into work mode. Starting the year with clarity makes all the difference.

  • Celebrating Small Wins: One of my biggest reflections is the importance of celebrating the small victories. Each completed task, no matter how small, is a step in the right direction. I’m learning to appreciate the journey, not just the destination.

  • Prioritising Presence: Whether at work or at home, my intention for this year is to be more present. That means fully immersing myself in family time, while also focusing on the tasks at hand when I’m in the office. The key is finding harmony and balance, even if it’s imperfect.

Tips for a Balanced Life: Reflections & Resolutions for Working Parents

  • Be Compassionate with Yourself: Life isn’t always going to go according to plan. That’s something I’ve learned in 2024, and my intention for 2025 is to be kinder to myself. There’s no perfect way to balance it all, but we’re doing the best we can – and that’s enough.

  • Set Boundaries with Confidence: Setting boundaries has always been a key reflection for me. In both my professional and personal life, it’s important to know when to say no, and when to prioritize what matters most. This year, I intend to honor my limits and protect my time.

  • Take Care of Yourself: This is a big one. Whether it’s through quiet moments, a walk, or simply catching up with a friend, making time for self-care is essential. My intention is to take better care of myself so that I can show up as my best self for my family and my work.

Reflections & Resolutions: Here’s to a New Year

As we step into 2025, I’m filled with hope, intention, and a sense of excitement for what’s to come. The past year has taught me so much, and my intentions for the year ahead are rooted in balance, family, and self-compassion. Whether you’re navigating life as a working parent, a professional, or both, remember that you’re not alone in this journey. We all have our own paths, and it’s the reflections and intentions that help guide us through.

So here’s to making 2025 a year of progress, connection, and presence. Let’s embrace the new year with open arms and a clear intention to live well, work well, and enjoy every step along the way!
